Who Owns Your Ad Account? A 2-Minute Check Every Contractor Should Do
Here’s a simple question every contractor should be able to answer: “Can I log into my own Google Ads account?” For a lot of contractors who hired an agency, the answer is no. The agency set it up, and it lives in their name.
That matters. If the account isn’t yours, the history, the data and everything you’ve paid to learn about your customers leaves when the agency does. You start over from zero.
The 2-minute check
- Google Ads and Local Services Ads. Can you log in with your own email? Are you listed as an admin?
- Google Business Profile. Are you the owner, not just a manager?
- Your website and domain. Is the domain registered to you? Could you get a copy of the site if you left?
- Facebook and Instagram. Do you own the page and the ad account, or does someone else?
- Your leads. Can you see every lead, with its name, number and source, without asking anyone?
If any answer is “I’m not sure,” ask for admin access this week. A good agency won’t mind. If they push back, that tells you something.
How we do it
We handle the setup and the day-to-day so you don’t have to, but nothing is held hostage. You can see every lead and where it came from, and if you ever leave, we hand over your ad accounts, Google profile, domain and website. I’d rather earn the next month than lock anyone in.
